Terms & Conditions

By accessing or using The McKenzie Friend website or our services, you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please read them carefully before proceeding.

1. Who We Are

The McKenzie Friend provides guidance and support to individuals representing themselves in family court and related legal matters. We are not solicitors or barristers and do not carry out reserved legal activities as defined by the Legal Services Act 2007.

2. Our Services

We offer practical help, document preparation, and courtroom support where permitted. All services are provided on an unregulated basis as McKenzie Friend assistance. We focus on helping you understand procedures, prepare effectively, and present your case with confidence.

3. No Legal Representation

While we are experienced in family law, we are not authorised to conduct litigation, manage your case in court, or act as your legal representative. We do not file documents on your behalf or speak to the judge unless permission is expressly granted by the court.

4. Confidentiality

We treat all information you share with us as confidential. Your personal data and case details are handled securely and in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We will never disclose your information without your consent unless required by law.

5. Fees and Payment

  • All fees are agreed in advance and confirmed in writing.
  • Payments are due before any appointment or document preparation begins, unless otherwise agreed.
  • Deposits are non-refundable once booked.
  • We reserve the right to suspend services if payments are delayed or not received in full.

6. Cancellation and Rescheduling

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Any refund requests will be reviewed in accordance with our discretion and time already spent on your matter.

7. Client Responsibilities

You are responsible for providing accurate information and all relevant documents related to your case. We rely on the information you provide to give appropriate guidance. Any incorrect or incomplete details may affect the quality of our support.
