What exactly is a McKenzie Friend?

A McKenzie Friend assists individuals who represent themselves in court (known as “litigants in person”). We provide moral support, help prepare documents, explain procedures, and ensure you stay calm, confident, and organised during your case.

How are McKenzie Friends different from solicitors?

Solicitors are regulated and can formally represent you. McKenzie Friends, on the other hand, offer professional guidance and preparation at a fraction of the cost. We focus on practical help and emotional support, so you can manage your case confidently without paying high legal fees.

Can I represent myself in family court?

Yes. Many people successfully represent themselves with our help. We make sure you understand the process, know what to say, and have all the right documents ready before your hearing.

What areas of law do you cover?

  • Child Arrangements (C100 Applications)
  • Divorce and Separation
  • Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders
  • CAFCASS Interview Preparation
  • TOLATA and Property Disputes
  • Financial Claims and Child Maintenance
  • Mediation and Court Bundle Preparation

Do you attend court hearings?

Yes. We can accompany you to court, sit beside you, and quietly offer support throughout your hearing. While we can’t usually speak on your behalf, we ensure you’re prepared, confident, and well-organised.

Can you help me draft a witness or position statement?

Absolutely. We help clients write clear, professional, and child-focused statements. Every draft is reviewed carefully to make sure it’s factual, respectful, and court-appropriate.

What if my hearing is very soon?

Don’t worry. We regularly help clients on short notice. Get in touch straight away and we’ll prioritise your case, review your documents, and help you prepare as efficiently as possible.

How much do your services cost?

We believe in transparency. Your initial consultation is free, and all services are offered at fixed rates. You’ll always receive a written quote before we start, with no hidden fees or hourly surprises.

Do you offer online consultations?

Yes. We work with clients across the UK through phone, Zoom, or WhatsApp video calls. Remote appointments are ideal if you prefer privacy or live outside our local area.

Are McKenzie Friends legally recognised?

Yes. The right to use a McKenzie Friend in court is recognised under UK law. Judges regularly permit McKenzie Friends to assist litigants in person during hearings.

What if I need to apply for a C100 or attend a CAFCASS interview?

We assist with both. We’ll help you complete your C100 form correctly and coach you for your CAFCASS interview, focusing on clear communication and the best interests of your child.

Do you handle criminal or immigration cases?

No — we specialise solely in family law and related civil matters. However, we can refer you to trusted legal professionals if your case requires specialist support.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. We treat every case with complete confidentiality and professionalism. Your personal details and case documents are handled securely and never shared without your consent.

How do I book a consultation?

You can call us directly on 07448 791 177 or use our contact form. We’ll arrange a convenient time for your free consultation and outline how we can support you.
